About Tandem Bearing

A tandem bearing is a specialized thrust bearing arrangement designed to carry very high axial loads in one direction by stacking multiple bearing units in series. Each bearing shares the load proportionally, allowing the assembly to handle forces far greater than a single bearing could manage. Typically used with cylindrical roller thrust bearings, tandem bearings offer high stiffness, low friction, and excellent load distribution. They are commonly found in heavy-duty industrial applications such as extruders, gearboxes, pumps, and rolling mills, where continuous, high-pressure axial forces are present. Their modular design also allows customization of load capacity by adjusting the number of bearing stages.
